Most of us are busy people. We juggle demanding jobs, bringing up children, managing households, finding time to be with our partners and to socialise with friends and family. This often means there is little time to think about our own health needs. Being too busy can have serious consequences. While some stress is a normal
part of life, excessive stress will reduce physical and emotional health.
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, England, this year polled 26,000 workers and found one worker in four did not stop for lunch, often because there was too much work or there were too few staff to cover work loads. The CSP poll also found that over half of the workers said they went to work when stressed or ill. The CPS concluded that long hours, working while ill and lack of exercise posed “a serious
risk” to health - including back pain, obesity, cancer, depression and heart disease.
It is timely to look at our lives and to see where there could be a better balance.
We can choose to do something “healthy” each day such as walking in the lunch hour,
making healthy food choices and keeping up with regular doctor and dentist appointments.
Here at IPS Worldwide we continue to help individuals arm themselves with new ways of coping. Learning how to manage stress is an absolute necessity for healthy living. We readily offer objective, non judgmental help.
