CEO's Message

Robin Smith, CEOMention retirement and many images come to mind - long, enjoyable days at the golf course, leisurely lunches with friends, exotic overseas travel - all without the usual time constraints of work commitments. However, for many people, especially those who have had long working careers, the move to retirement can hold significant challenges. The loss of the career role can mean the loss of the status and sense of purpose that comes with a job or profession. Social networks may be impacted, self image and ambitions questioned and adjustments may be needed to changed material circumstances.

An important component of retirement is planning and preparing for it. As employees we are often reminded to save for retirement but our physical and mental health needs require planning too. For those who enjoy working this may mean choosing to work part time when retirement age is reached or pursuing productive and fulfilling activities that provide stimulation, social contact and support.

Retirement heralds the beginning of a “late freedom” where time is structured ahead according to your own wishes. Establishing a routine will help you to manage time wisely. For many retirees setting goals regularly, such as learning a foreign language, investing in their community through volunteering or taking on a physical endurance challenge such as riding a bike 20 kilometres, provides a sense of achievement and purpose.

Here at IPS we offer training and help in preparing for retirement. Contact us to see how we can help you.

Happy retired couple

Client Feedback

“Hi, I just wanted to let you know how much your services have helped me with Personal/Family issues.

I had some sessions a while ago with a lovely lady and just those times have helped me heaps at home with my daughter.

Yesterday I attended your Managing Conflict course here at work and that night was able to use the skills I learnt to help defuse a situation that arose at home later that day with my daughter.

So, Thank you very much. Your services are truly valuable and it's great knowing your there to help when help is needed.”
